Fall Textures Glass Jar Centerpiece How To
How do you make an easy centerpiece for Fall? This simple Fall glass jar centerpiece layers autumn textures for a stunning look. here’s the DIY how to.
Have you ever made the classic 7 layer salad? The one with lettuce, peas, bacon, cheese…all layered in a glass bowl, so you can see all the layers? That’s what today’s centerpiece looks like, except with autumn textures. So easy, yet a stunning way to kick off your Fall decor! I’m hoping this Fall Textures Glass Jar Centerpiece How To inspires you for the new season.
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge, organized by my friend, Cindy, from County Road 407. If you’re visiting from Bluesky at Home, I’m sure you enjoyed Carol’s pretty large glass vase for Fall. At the bottom I’ll have all the links to my friend’s ideas for late summer/Fall jar ideas this month. Be ready to get inspired for Fall!
Fall Jar Inspiration Photo
Each month Cindy chooses an inspiration photo we all design around. Today’s inspo pic comes from Kelly at Live Laugh Rowe. Inspired by Pottery Barn decor, Kelly created pretty glass jars, layered with Fall textures and a candle. Kelly gives a great how to, to achieve the classic look.
Luckily I had a thrifted glass vase similar to Kelly’s to get the look. My Fall decor bins have started coming out; this is the perfect kick off decor project to get the season started!

Gather Fall Textures
You can make this centerpiece as large or small as you like, depending on your glass vessel. Secondhand glass is usually plentiful at thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales. For a couple bucks you can find the perfect centerpiece vase.
Other Fall materials to gather:
- grapevine garland
- dried hydrangeas (easy to dry if you have them in your yard)
- miniature faux apples
- faux acorns
- bag of bean mix legumes (from the grocery store)
- dried corn husks
- battery taper candles (I love the birch look ones for fall and winter)
Notice that’s 7 things? Just like the old 7 layer salad! You can substitute other fall filler textures if you like, but I did like the color combo of how this turned out.
How To Layer the Fall Textures
Begin your Fall glass jar centerpiece by filling the bottom with sections of the grapevine garland. I cut 4″ sections from my garland with a pruner and scrunched them into the bottom recess of my glass vase. Have a couple inches of the grapevine as a textural base. In the inspiration pic, Kelly used a grapevine wreath and cut it. I’ve found the garland can be used in many ways and is a great material to have handy.
Sorry, I didn’t take pics at this point! I was too excited to see how it would turn out, and just kept arranging.
Next I placed dried green hydrangea snips all around the perimeter.
I started filling the middle with the dried bean soup mixture to keep everything in place.
I added the mini apples next, and then the acorns around the perimeter. Filling in the middle with the beans keeps everything in place and adds a nice textural element, too.
Looking like the 7 layer salad, isn’t it? But we still have the finale layers to go! They really make it pop!
Top With Corn Husks
Last year I kept all the corn husks I pulled off my corn stalks from the porch. {“Our Vintage Farmhouse Fall Porch Tour”} They come in handy for decor; you can stick them into anything for instant texture!
To get the dried corn husks to stand in the beans, I used floral wire wood picks (get them HERE). I simply pushed them through the bottom part of the husk (didn’t really use the wire part). These little doozies make it easy to place something chunky in floral arrangements-like a piece of fruit. You may think of another way of doing it, but these worked for me!
Push the wood floral sticks into the beans around the perimeter so the corn stalks stand up all around.
Battery Powered Candles for the Win
Last, but definitely not least is to add my favorite battery operated pillar candles. ( Get them HERE). Last year I realized you can simply push the button to turn these on (or use the remote, or set them on a timer) and they can be inserted anywhere. Super easy to stand in dried beans!
These faux candles with real wax texture now come in a wide variety of colors. They’ve become my new bridal shower gift! Just gifted some in gray to a bride, along with a set of candle holders. See all the colors HERE.
