First, Choose a Backdrop
Architectural vintage items make the best backdrops for any wall art you want to create. My favorite pieces to customize as seasonal decor are vintage bedsprings. I’ve got different versions in several places in my home. I can easily switch up what’s hanging on them with S hooks or clothespins without having to put more holes in the walls.
You could also use an old garden gate or a chicken wired frame to create this simple DIY botanical wall decor.
Find a Botanical Poster
Vintage inspired botanical posters are easy to find online. Their pretty organic illustrations can turn into inexpensive botanical wall art with just a couple additions.

THIS is the fern poster I used.
You don’t have to take decorating too seriously for a pretty look. I clipped the ferny paper poster onto the vintage bedspring with a couple of my RIT Dyed Clothespins.
Find Faux Fern Fronds
Dig through your faux foliage bin and find random fern fronds. Or purchase new ones. I picked up an inexpensive bunch the other day that had a beautiful long shape. Snip individual fronds off bunch. Make sure you bend them a little for a more natural, organic look.
The one on the left is right off the new bunch. The one on the right I simply bent back and forth a bit. Doesn’t it look more natural? You should be doing this to all your artificial floral stems to give them a more realistic look.
Shop inexpensive ferns HERE (this is the one above).
Attach Fern Fronds and Moss
To create a 3D botanical vibe, attach single fern fronds and moss at random around the poster. My favorite way to attach anything when I’m styling with florals is to use THIS. I like it so much better than floral wire. It’s lightweight, but strong. One roll will last you forever.
At the bottom of the fern fronds, attach a small bunch of moss. A roll of moss like THIS makes it easier. Just cut off a random shape and wire it on. A little bit less messy, too.
Vintage Botanical Wall Art for Spring
This seriously took about 30 minutes. And one little corner of my home looks like Spring unfurling! I just love to see a big bolt of green inside when it’s not quite happening outside yet. Definitely gives off a boho vibe, too:)

Enjoyed your post. Every time I go to “the dump.” i.e., transfer station, I always check the dumpster for a baby crib sized bedspring. I want one caz I love the way you style yours! Today they had a sign on the dumpster–climbing around in it can get your dump privileges revoked! Back to curbside, I guess!
I LOVE ferns for spring and your idea is great. “Shop the look” is almost overwhelming with choices. Thank you for doing the work.
I love ferns, too, and there were so many pretty ferny things out there! Glad you enjoyed it, Dana:)
So pretty, Lora! Feels like spring!
Thanks, Linda!
Super cute, Lora! It’s like the forest floor growing right out of the wall. Such a pretty pop of green!
Yes, very woodland looking, Rachel:)
