Simple DIY Birch Branch Centerpiece for Fall
Want an easy but striking decor idea? This simple DIY birch branch centerpiece will give you beautiful fall to winter decor.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. And nature can provide the perfect beauty. As much as I love to decorate around a favorite vintage find, decorating with rustic natural elements is always a win. Today’s decor idea is natural and beautiful. Anyone can make this Simple DIY Birch Branch Centerpiece for Fall.
Today’s idea is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge series, where a group of bloggers all design around an inspirational pic. Thanks to Cindy at County Road 407 for being our creative leader!
If you’re visiting from WM Design House, I’m sure you loved Wendy’s easy DIY candleholders; everything Wendy touches is creatively beautiful. I’ll have the rest of the inspiration at the end; enjoy it all!
Pinterest Challenge Inspiration
This month’s inspiration comes from the Cozy Stylish Chic Blog. Jeanne shares how to make easy tree stump candle holders you can use throughout the holidays for decor. These are a great decorating staple to have on hand to use in every season. Check out her blog post for the easy how to.
Cindy’s picture choice is pretty simple this time, so we’re having to kick in our creative juices! Can’t wait to see all the ideas this talented bunch will come up with!
Design cues from the pic:
- paper birch logs
- votive candles
- greenery around the base
- flexible holiday decor-autumn to winter

Gather Your Supplies and Materials
You don’t need many items for this simple centerpiece. You may have them in your yard, get at the grocery store, or find them online. (click on highlighted words to shop)
- birch branch– 3-4″ thick, 18-24″ long
- drill with 1 1/2″ spade bit
- hot melt glue gun
- reindeer moss
- evergreen clippings
- preserved Fall leaves
- orange slices and cinnamon sticks (or autumn potpourri bag)
- pinecones
- pumpkin votive candles
Centerpiece How To
Make an odd number of penciled “X’s” on your birch branch/log, spacing as you like. Make sure they will sit evenly when your branch is laying, so your candles won’t be crooked as they burn.
Then drill holes with a 1 1/2″ spade bit. This size bit is perfect for votive cup candles. Get one…you’ll use it often.
With a hot melt glue gun, attach bits of reindeer moss in small clumps around candle holes. Glue small pinecones randomly also (a nice bag of potpourri will have different sized small ones).
Tip: Use a hair drier to melt away any glue strings. (You’ll see from the pics, I skipped this all important step).
Arrange Your DIY Centerpiece
Your birch branch centerpiece can just be used alone. Or layer it over another interesting accessory (old shutter, breadboard, galvanized metal). I thrifted a fun large wooden leaf recently that I wanted to use (it was $10!).
Lay the birch branch on your foundation and arrange natural texture items around: evergreen clippings, preserved leaves, orange slices, cinnamon sticks and pinecones.
Lastly, add your votive candles. You can use plain white ones, or add a harvest touch with cute little pumpkin ones.(find similar HERE and HERE) Your candle choice can reflect whatever season you are decorating for.
Fall and Harvest Centerpiece, Perfect for Thanksgiving
I styled this birch branch centerpiece for autumn to coordinate with my eclectic harvest decorated hutch (which I haven’t even shared yet). It could be a great centerpiece for Thanksgiving, and could be transitioned to Christmas, too.
The tablecloth is an old woolen quilt top I picked up at a church sale. I used burgundy and gold preserved leaves to coordinate. (You know everything I do needs a touch of vintage;)
Love how these challenges inspire us to get creative! Nature is the perfect decor accessory, don’t you think? And so easily accessible! Foraging in the Fall is the best.

This would also be beautiful laid out in a dough bowl! Same as yours, it could be used as a dining room table centerpiece or for a coffee table.
Thanks for sharing!
Happy Blessed Holidays!
Yes, it would! I actually don’t own a bread bowl (one thing I don’t have;)
This is so cute! & the mini pumpkin candles are the perfect touch! You always have the best ideas.

Lora, what a great piece! I love how you custom fit it perfectly for your thrifted leaf plate, a great find! The addition of moss, pinecones and other naturals almost gives it a cornucopia vibe, but it’ll be so easy to change out for the holidays. Pinned xx

Darling centerpiece Lora! I love how you arranged the branch on the wood leaf tray. What a find girl! The pumpkin candles are such a good idea too! Love it all!
I hesitated on that wood leaf tray, but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get it. This centerpiece proves it’s worth;)
