Peony Field Tour, Swenson Gardens
Enjoy a tour of the lovely swenson gardens peony field in full bloom!
There’s something wonderful about escaping to the country on a rainy Saturday morning and taking in the beauty of acres of blooming peony plants in all their glory! Despite having to hold an umbrella over my head while I was capturing each beautiful bloom, the resulting raindrops made my efforts even more beautiful! Having perfect subject matter fueled my photographic juices! Choosing a favorite flower would be as hard as picking a favorite child, but peonies in full bloom…are pretty much perfection! Come along and join me for a Peony Field Tour, Swenson Gardens.
Peony Field Tour, Swenson Gardens
I first met Becky of Swenson Gardens when I was purchasing a ton of her cut blooms for my sister’s wedding, 11 years ago. I had the privilege of meeting her right in the middle of her fully bloomed peony field, while her son and daughter clipped the fresh blooms I wanted for the wedding arrangements. I did not skimp, either! The wedding turned out amazingly beautiful, filled with peonies! Let’s see if I can dig up an old photo or two…
Since then, Swenson Gardens has been growing their family-run business and filling gardens everywhere with their beautiful peony plants, grown with sturdy stems. As you’ll see in my pics, even after a night of pouring rain, these flowers stand tall, not flopping over like their predecessors! They are beautiful specimens to enjoy in the perennial garden, and wonderful for cut flowers, too.
The more unique colors and styles the better. The corals are my favorite, and the yellows run a close second.
Ready for some amazing beauty and a ton of pictures? Welcome to the field…
Aren’t those raindrops just divine? Anticipating them on the peonies was what got me out of bed that morning!
From brighter corals to an heirloom blush color, the pinks are so perfect:
Besides color, the variation of shape and details are amazing. And despite the rain, they’re standing tall on their sturdy stems!
The pinks morph into reds and deep burgundy. Unusual colors that would really make a statement in a garden. Some are full of petals, some have yellow, textural middles. All are amazing!
And then there’s the even more unusual yellows, which were bright and cheery, even on a gray day!
Don’t they look like roses?
I zipped through the rows of beauty, with my umbrella over my head pretty quickly. I think even Mr. Fix-it was overwhelmed with the variety and color. We finished just as the rolls of thunder were beginning!
Oh to live in a country setting like this, able to gaze at acres of blooming peonies a couple weeks a year…
<<Sigh>> Think we should have moved farther out…the country is calling to me!
Oh, how I love summer flowers! We just need to soak up their beauty while they last! Have you been on any garden tours this year? If you are going to, maybe you should host a party after for your friends, like I did {“A Pink Depression and Peonies Patio Party”}. And if you’ve got a roll of the awesome vintage fencing you saw in the wedding pic above, you may want to learn how to make a fun “Vintage Fencing Square” from it; the decorating possibilities are endless!

Sharing at these lovely parties:
Do you know the name of the pink peony with the yellow center in your main picture? I have a new one just blooming after 4 years and it is that one, but I don’t have a clue of what it is called! Gorgeous pictures and loved seeing Swenson Fields!!
Sorry, I don’t know all of them by name, Dixie! You may want to check out their website, Swensongardens.com. But their version may be a little different because theirs are definitely grown specially to have strong stems. I’m so glad you’re finally getting flowers; lucky you!
Lora I wanted to feature flowers today for TFT, so how could I resist this gorgeous post? Thanks for linking up!

I never knew there were so many different colors of peonies! Your photos are stunning! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm–pinned!
I know! We all think of the old fashioned varieties that flop after a rainfall. These are new versions that stand strong and come in endless varieties! They really are beautiful!
What lovely gardens on a rainy day! And your photos are just beautiful, Lora…they should be in a magazine!
Thanks for your sweet words, Linda! And yes…I’d love to have photos in a magazine someday…#goals.
