Old drawers from desks and dressers are plentiful and can often be found for cheap or even free. Every spring when the curbside junking season hits, I accumulate a fresh stash {“Curbside Junking Adventures and Tips”}. And when I’ve got a lot of something, it inspires me to come up with an idea to use them. Years ago, my store partner and I used to crank these out regularly and they always sold well. Of course, I never made any for myself! I decided I needed to have a few Repurposed Drawer Wall Pockets to finally enjoy in my own home.

I’m sharing this project for our monthly Thrifty Chicks Challenge. We’re all creating using the theme of drawers today, and I can’t wait to see what my talented friends have come up with. I’ll have all their posts at the end.

Rather than showing you a bunch of pics of Mr. Fix it making these repurposed drawer wall pockets in the shop, I decided to make a full-on tutorial with pics for those who would like to DIY these. Repurposed Drawer Wall Pockets

To begin the project, the drawers need to be taken apart and cut down. In my tutorial, I’ve got pics of us taking all these steps. Once the drawers are re-assembled in their mini version, they are sanded and painted.

Sand and Paint

These drawer wall pockets are painted with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Farmhouse White and Trophy over Flow Blue. They’re finished off with MMS hemp oil. I decided to delete the metal handles on the white drawers and opt for something much more fun. I kept the wood handles on the gray drawers, because they look so wonderfully vintage.

Add Vintage Hardware

Vintage hardware makes everything look better in my book, so I scrounged my stash for some old hinges and door plates. I combined them with some cute new knobs. A little new mixed with the old is the best of both worlds.

If you can’t find old hardware, you can use D-hooks. I put D-hooks on the bottom of the large drawer so this one could also work as a shelf.

Use for Organization or Decor

I usually style these by adding cute things to the drawer space. You can add styrofoam for spacing if you need to get your cute items to the right height. You can also use them for organization; envelopes or desk-type items. But I’m all about the cute, so I styled these 4 for spring.

The two white repurposed drawer wall pockets got 3 mini trees and some spanish moss. I love how the fresh green and gray set off all the vintage goodness!

The long, curvy gray drawer got filled with a springtime bird and nest and some eggs. Vintage books show off their cute covers standing tall, too.

The last small drawer wall pocket got a row of  white apple blossoms standing in rustic wood vases {“Repurposed Vintage Bucket Rustic Vase”}.

Aren’t they cute? So many decorative and organizational possibilities! I’m trying to decide where these cuties should land in my spring decorating. I’m just so glad I finally made some for myself. Isn’t that just the way it goes, though? The tax man does his taxes last, I’m sure;)
