Fall Porch Inspiration Pic
This month’s inspiration photo comes from Sugar Maple Farmhouse. Rachel and Kevin Quenzer live in a remodeled farmhouse in Michigan. Their front porch is one of their favorite places to enjoy the Fall colors.
Sugar Maple Farmhouse‘s porch reminded me a lot of our porch with it’s swing at the end and the white posts. Here are the details I noticed:
- cornstalks on the posts
- pumpkins and mums gathered around on the floor
- cute seasonal sign
- comfy throw rugs
- porch swing with cozy throw
- pair of chairs to sit and enjoy the scenery
Now you get to see how I interpreted this pretty look at my home! Fill your cup with hot cider and enjoy the Fall inspiration:)

Welcome to our Fall Home!
Our home’s wraparound porch is truly one of the most loved places in our home, so it’s fun to decorate it for the season. The biggest bang is always tying cornstalks around all the posts. As they dry they make the most beautiful sound in the wind. Luckily I have “connections” and get to fill a whole trailer-full for free; a drive in the country to gather natural Fall decor always makes me happy!
Decorate Your Porch Like a Room
I like to decorate the outdoors like the indoors, creating gathering spaces with furniture. You’ll notice we don’t have any “new” furniture; everything here is secondhand from the side of the road, or thrifted. I’m a trash-to-treasure girl and love to revive pieces someone else is tired of.
This summer I was going to get rid of the aqua cupboard that’s been in my daughter’s room, but then I spied a pic in Country Living magazine with an aqua cupboard on a porch; brilliant! This old piece has breathed new life into our porch. with a table and chairs nearby, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy dinner. I had fun decorating the inside with Fall and Halloween touches. {For glass front cabinet decorating ideas, see “10 Styling Ideas That Make Glass Front Cabinet Displays Beautiful“}.
The big banana crate at the top was a gift from a friend. I brushed a couple coats of poly on it to bring out it’s graphics and seal it. Some chicken wire tucked inside was the perfect way to fill it with my year-end hydrangea heads. More hydrangeas, corn husks and little pumpkins add a natural touch to some of my enamelware collection. Accents of orange, fake spiders and faux candles add a Halloween touch and make this a fun nighttime spot, too!
Vintage Textiles Add a Cozy Touch to Outdoor Decor
Since our porch has a roof overhead, it’s wonderful to add vintage textiles to make the porch cozy. Vintage quilts, rescued quilt tops and repurposed vintage quilt witches hats add texture and graphic punch to the porch decor. {“Upcycled Vintage Quilt Witch Hat DIY”}

Natural Garden Cuttings as Inexpensive Decor
Autumn is the best time to take advantage of all nature has for decorating! Pumpkins, mums and gourds are found at the farm stands, but I add plenty of natural touches harvested from our yard and gardens. Hydrangea heads, dried flower pods, sedum, sticks, pinecones; I scrounge up whatever I can find and add it to my outdoor pots and decor.
I enjoy my summer flowers as long as I can, tucking in the Fall touches around. My morning glory’s are going crazy right now, and I’m savoring every last glimpse.
Use Different Levels for Decor
I liked how the inspiration picture showed pumpkins and mums gathered in containers at the base of their posts. Junk finds combine well with Autumn natural accents, so my galvanized buckets and milk crates help to create different levels of decor. Sometimes I turn them upside down and place a pumpkin or flower on top, sometimes I tuck flowers inside with a few plastic bags crunched up to elevate them.
(This picture was before I added the milk crate; doesn’t the added level make the vignette more interesting?)
Cozy Seating Spots to Enjoy the View
Cozy seating is essential to enjoy the pretty Autumn view. Our two vintage chairs face our private backyard, and a table in between is perfect for a cup of coffee. A minnow bucket liner holds a candle so it doesn’t blow out; it provides a nice glow at night.
Harvest pumpkins, gourds and mums join clippings from the yard for a natural welcome near our back (also main) door.
A new layered rug combo with a black and white check and a pumpkin coordinates with the porch’s subtle Halloween, Fall style.

I shared this today!
Lora,
Your porch feels like a beautiful mountain retreat! It makes me want to head to Highlands, NC today! I am totally smitten with the idea of a painted hutch on our screened porch. I’m now on the hunt for one. Just beautiful!
You will love a hutch on your porch, Christy! Happy hunting!
Lora, your porch is my style! Love all the cozy touches like the quilts. And that blue hutch!! Now I’m looking for a piece from our home to put on our front porch! Pinned 😊
Glad to send an idea your way, Cindy!
Your vintage porch looks so cozy, Lora. And I love that blue china hutch! Pinned, and I’m excited to be featuring your post at Tuesday Turn About tomorrow!
Wonderful! Thanks so much, Julie:)
The hutch on the porch is mind blowing!! Definitely gotta keep that one in mind. And did I see an oval minnow bucket?? I’ve never seen one before!
Yes! Scored that oval minnow bucket this summer and was pretty excited about it. Graphics are gone on the bucket, but I still love it:) Good eye!
There are so many great ideas in this post. I love the blue cupboard on the porch. Also, I have several old quits that need mending.
Yes, mend those treasures so they can be enjoyed; don’t overthink it:)
Your fall porch has so many pretties to appreciate. The turquoise cabinet is such a fun piece and I love the crate of hydrangeas on top. I could sit out here for hours and be completely entertained! Happy fall Lora!
So beautiful! I love the vibrant colors that you chose and how great they look in the space. Such creative and wonderful ideas, thank you for sharing!
Have you always been so creative? You seem to take anything and make it so wonderful. Thanks for these ideas, had fun going through it all.
A true country wraparound porch with seating and dining. How perfect is this. I love, love, love it and all the amazing antiques you’ve displayed. Definitely my favorite porch. Now I just wish I had one, love it all.
This is my kind of porch Lora, filled with vintage and junked pieces that make it feel so cozy and homey! I love the turquoise hutch on the porch, the vibrant color is just so perfect with pumpkins, hydrangeas, corn stalks and ends of summer flowers!
Your porch is so beautiful! The perfect place to spend the evening on. I love the turquoise cabinet. So beautiful.
Lora, I always LOVE your photos and inspiration. My husband and I just redid a metal glider (turned it into a swing and painted gray/white) for our back porch and I created a flower arrangement in a minnow bucket for our table (thrifted, of course for $20!). Used what I had on hand.. the flowers were a bit TOO orange/red so I sprayed them lightly with some brown spray paint. Very pleased with the result! Would love to share a picture, but not sure how I could do this!
I love that you decorate your porch like a room. It’s perfect that way and the coziest of cozies! Love every single detail. I think I pinned every photo! Not sure I’d ever go inside. I’d just move from chair to chair enjoying the outdoors. Thank you for joining in!
Stttoppp!! That hutch out there is brilliant!!!! I LOVE all the goodies you put inside of it. SO GOOD!!! Also, a wrap around porch is such a delight…someday I’ll have one of my own 🙂 Beautiful styling, Lora!!!!
Loved the tour, so many wonderful ideas, Thanks So Much!
