Easy Crib Spindle Snowflake
Unfortunately old cribs are plentiful in roadside garbage piles lately {See “Curbside Junking Adventures and Tips”}. Although we all lived through their dangers, the oldies have been replaced with newer, safer versions. One man’s trash means a junker needs to create some new treasure, right? These Crib Spindle Snowflakes were birthed from our ever-full stock of old crib parts!
We finally got some snow to play in, here in MN! Everyone else has been getting their share of the white stuff, but not us:( I can’t truly get in the mood for spring until I’ve gotten my fill of winter, so expect to see some more of the white stuff here!
After I filled my metal garbage cans with spruce tips back in November {“Spruce Tips 101”}, I needed to add some decorations. What could be better than to add some winter to my pots, since we didn’t have snow yet.
The bucket of white crib spindles was calling out to me for a new lease on life!
Easy, peasy.
Just take 3 white (or spray painted) crib spindles and drill a 1/4″ hole in the middle of them lengthwise.
Stack the 3 spindles together in a snowflake pattern and insert a rounded 1/4″ bolt through. Add a washer and a nut to the back and tighten.
If you wanted a “nicer” look you could spray paint them after too. Aqua, silver or white snowflakes could be pretty. You could even use them inside en masse for a party or a wedding;) Or hang them from your porch overhang.
I stuck them into all my spruce tips pots (that are finally covered in real snow!}, and added some thrift store scarves, too {just like I did for our chairs, “Add Holiday Flourish to Your Outdoor Furniture”}.
You can hardly see those pretty greens anymore! But the big, Crib Spindle Snowflake is still making a statement! With a whole crib-full of spindles, you could make yourself quite a few snowflakes!
And yes, when there wasn’t so much snow the scarves tied to the shepherd’s hooks inserted into the garbage can pots looked quite cute!
If you’ve got an old crib that’s past the safety rating, don’t throw it away; there’s so many creative possibilities! {you can also use the spring as a backdrop for your family photos, “Bedspring Family Photo Wall”} Think I should probably do a whole post on all the ways to use an old crib!
